Professor Rosemary Moeketsi has risen up the ranks at Unisa from the level of Junior lecturer in 1985 to school director and later the deputy executive dean. She acquired her DLitt et Phil and all other qualifications from Unisa. Prof Moeketsi’s key focus is on the growth and development of others. In her two years as Dean of the College, she has introduced the Scholars Development Plan, the first of its kind in the entire South African higher education sector. This five-pronged intensive plan, supported by Unisa’s relevant departments, is bent on expediting the growth and development of emerging academics appointed in the College of Human Sciences. Another of her passions is to instil and emphasise our Africanness. For that reason she introduced a lecture series called “Africa Speaks”. These lectures, by visiting Professors, not only facilitates Unisa’s vision to be the best African university in the service of humanity, but they also introduce new scholars to accomplished African intellectuals and also instil in them the confidence to think and speak from an African perspective.
